The Woven Headband, a nicely shaped headband for young and old. The "woven" cable stitch only looks intricate - it's really easy!

We use Dale of Norway's 100% washable wool Freestyle yarn which is available through KidsKnits.com at the best price on the planet!

Sizes: Child (Adult)

Needles: One set of size 8 US (5mm) needles, or the size necessary to obtain the correct gauge, below.

Gauge: 36 stitches = 4"/10cm wide in "woven" cable pattern

Abbreviations: bk = back of work; CO = cast on; cn = cable needle; fr = front of work; K = knit; K2tog = knit 2 stitches together; m1 = make 1 or increase 1; rep = repeat; sl = slip; st(s) = stitches.

Headband Instructions:

CO 36 sts. Work "woven" cable pattern as follows:

Row #1 and all odd #'d rows: P all sts.

Row #2: K 3, *sl 3 sts to cn & hold in fr, K 3, K 3 from cn, rep from * to last 3 sts, K 3.

Row #4: K all sts.

Row #6: *sl 3 sts to cn & hold in bk, K 3, K3 from cn, rep from * to end.

Row #8: K all sts.

Repeat the above 8 rows to form "woven" cable pattern until work is approximately 5 (6)" from beginning. Continuing in pattern, replace the next Row #4 as follows: K2tog 3 times, k to last 6 sts, k2tog 3 times. 30 sts remain. Continue in pattern, beginning and ending Row #6 with a new "K 3" and omit "K 3" from the beginning and end of Row #2, until work is 13 1/2(14 1/2)" from beginning. Replace the next Row #4 as follows: K1, m1, K1, m1, K1, m1, K to last 3 stitches, m1, K1, m1, K1, m1, K1. 36 sts. Continue in pattern as originally stated until work is 18 1/2 (20 1/2)". Bind off all sts. Sew ends together. Bestow with hugs and kisses upon the head of your choice.
